We live in the age of the victim. Everyone and their granny is a victim. Everyone has sociological and emotional war wounds. We are dysfunctional and we all have ‘our stories’. We also, we are told, live in the age of ‘fulfill your potential’. We have/or should have the right to fulfill our greatest potential. As humans we are unique, we are special, we are good. This is the gospel of secular humanism.

Sadly, the gospel of secular humanism has not remained outside of the church. It has well and truly infiltrated our ranks. Proponents of this gospel emphasise the fact that humans are ‘made in God’s image’. Sadly, they forget one very important fact. The fall.

Humans, were made in Gods image. However they rebelled against the Most High God and became utterly corrupt. Jesus is the image of God. Compare fallen man with Christ and you begin to get a glimpse of how much we have fallen. Jesus through crucifixian and ressurection made it possible for God’s image to be restored. Those who repent and believe on Christ are being restored to the image of God. One day when God is glorified in His holy people the fulness of God’s image will be restored.

The fall has messed up God’s creation beyond recognition. Make no mistake about it. Every person who lives and breathes is bad. Every person is a God hater, a God rejecter and a Christ crucifier. This is why God calls all people to repent and believe the gospel. All people need the miracle of regeneration (to be made alive and made new). All people need forgiveness. All people have the wrath of God hanging over them and face an eternity under God’s wrath unless they repent and cling to Christ.
