Let Calvin Speak on…Preaching the Gospel
Many people react to the idea of election by saying ‘whats the point of preaching the gospel to people?’ Or they will say ‘The idea of election will lead to believers no longer inviting people to turn to Christ.
Well, let the master reformer speak on these issues himself…
“The gospel is to be preached indiscriminately to the elect and to the reprobate: but the elect alone come to Christ, because they have been taught of God.” (Isaiah 4:1-46)
“God invites all indiscriminately to salvation through the Gospel, but the ingratitude of the world is the reason why this grace, which is equally offered to all, is enjoyed by few.” (Synoptic Gospels 1:1-16)

I’ve been reading reformation material such as the westminister confession and reading about calvinism and such. It convinced me, the arminian arguement is just weak in comparison and undermines the sovereignty aspect. I think that people like John Wesley however despite holding to arminism they had a much better understanding of the importance of a personal holiness and devotional life and of course a dedication to soul winning which many calvinists often think is not necessary.

Hey Lee! Good to hear your on the journey
I wish I had found that path a lot sooner in my walk. Your points are spot on, I’m a great fan of John Wesley. Wesley was more reformed than most arminians are today, but he did hold to arminian convictions.
Speaking of Wesley, how is the methodist church going?

Yeah It’s going ok it’s a bit weird having like a circuit so it’s not really the reverend every week but they’re very nice people and I think that it’s got the balance pretty much spot on.
Like in the people you can see they practice real welcome and love even from the first day I got there and it’s continued and there’s quite a few people there giving me encouraging words and showing me Christ-likeness.
As opposed to whenever I would go to a church of Scotland It’s kind of a colder atmosphere and living word well…I feel like I’m getting more and more separated from them even though I love them all dearly. I just shouldn’t be there right now I know that much.
Anyway I’m praying a lot before I make any other decisions.
See you around and ty for your reply.
