“Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus called to be an apostle, set apart for the gospel of God”

Called

In this introduction we find out that Paul is called to be an Apostle! Pauls conversion was not his own idea it was God’s! Paul simply responded to the divine call! Called by God as an apostle (one who is sent). The foundation of Paul’s conversion and ministry was the call of God and so it is with everyone who believes. We need to allow that word to ring in our ears! Called of God, Called to Serve and Called to go with the gospel!

The call of God is the fundamental qualification for ministry, yet many enter the ministry without it! I think that this is one of the reasons that the church is in such a state of disrepair, there are two many influencing the body of Christ with their own opinions. To many have initiated their own call, too many are puffed up with vain imaginations. Look at the biblical narrative of Pauls call, visit the Damascus road! The call of God humbles a man, the call of God will bring a man to his knees. The call of God will make a man dispair of him self, for the call is always in the context of Theophany! The revelation of the character and the purpose of God! No wonder the writer of Hebrews said ‘It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God’. Just ask Moses! Look at his theophany in the burning bush! The Theophany the place of encounter and calling, the place where the strong willed are broken and brought to nothing. The place where a new foundation is laid and a new work begins. Lord raise up those who are trully called, those who have met you in truth and who are trully called and sent by you!
